Woven Paper Heart Tutorial

Supplies
paper (2 different colors)
scissors
pencil
a glass or biscuit cutter for tracing a 3" curve
glue or tape for a handle

1. Choose two pieces of paper in contrasting colors. (The Wishing Well has beautiful construction paper that has a nice heft for this project. ) Measure and cut each into strips 3" x 9".

2. Fold each strip in half and then use a pencil to trace the outlines of an approximately 3" cup at the open end of each paper strip. Cut your paper along this line.
3. Beginning at the folded edge, cut each paper into three strips, leaving the rounded ends uncut. With a pencil lightly number the strips as shown here for your first try. (Once you get the hang of this you won't need to number the strips anymore.)
4. Weaving first row:
Slip strip #1 between the top and bottom layers of strip #4.
Now slip #5 between the top and bottom layers or strip #1.
Now slip strip #1 between strip #6.
5. Weaving 2nd row
Slip strip #4 between strip #2.
Slip strip#2 between strip #5.
Now slip strip #6 between strip #2.
6. Weaving 3rd and last row.
Slide the woven strips down toward the curved end to give yourself some room to maneuver.
Now slip strip #3 between strip #4. (This will probably require some gentle bending.)
Slip strip #5 between strip #3.
Tuck strip #3 between the layers of strip #6. You did it!

7. Glue or tape on a handle if you like. Fill with treats. The Wishing Well has lots of beautiful little valentine gifts (crystal hearts, hand-carved animals, handmade jewelry) perfect to tuck into a woven paper heart for your special someone.
